Late Night Project Update - Mugen AI Tournament Video?

Hi, it's AiresTheFool or Tommy if you'd like and am unable to sleep and thus continued work on a hobby project. I recently got back into Mugen, a fighting game engine I've made a long video about on my YouTube channel about a year ago now.

I basically put together a roster from all the websites (mainly Mugen Archive) to make a digital cock fighting video for fun. I had fun with the first try I had at that kind of video but it had some flaws. It was still a lot of fun to make and it's one of the few games I could record well enough to make content for.

So am glad to announce to the blog that am working/prepping to make a reboot series called "Endless Mugen Arena". Basically am going to take what I did with the first Lunatic Mugen Tournament video and try and improve it greatly.

My other projects like the Visual Novel is still active, am just doing this for fun. I think am going to work on the sprites for Michael in that game next when am ready. but for now am going to make this fun little side project for fun.

Endless Mugen Arena is planned to be a series of Mugen AI tournaments with different themes and rules. The roster isn't set in stone just yet but I do plan to take these characters into a testing plan to sort them into different tiers to make management easier when it comes time to put them in the final tourney.

But unless I uncover a serious issue with characters the following image is likely the final roster for this next video project. have a look and try and guess whose who based on the icons.

I am not going to list every name and character author here as that would take forever but the core theme of this roster is a "Queen of Fighters" style tournament. meaning the roster will consist of women. I limited each unqiue IP/Series to TWO fighters max (with one exception under the Secrets box).

I've also tried keeping the AI reasonably strong or at least good enough to not be a complete wimp. I think I've done a good job of including as many different fighting game series (except of course the two UnderTale reps.) We got Arcana Hearts, Asuka 120% (the origin to most anime fighters from what I've heard.) and even some Mortal Kombat ladies are here.

The current state of this video is still in the downloading and testing phase, my last video I didn't bother testing the characters and that ended up with a few problems. So am looking to use some science to sort these characters by strength. I had some advice from ChatGPT on how to sort them. so I took some ideas from them and customized it to be more reasonable to my time.

I got three benchmark characters, a weak tier, a mid tier and a high tier character, each character will fight each one in a single match, we stop when their KO'ed or when they beat all three levels in my testing. losing rounds doesn't matter so long as they win the set against these AI gatekeepers. Three of those secret characters on the image are Gatekeepers I picked to test the power of the characters.

Here is how am going to do this. for each won match that character gets a point, this goes up to 3 points max and can get as low as 0 meaning no wins. Am gonna put 3 pointers in a A Rank, 2's go to B Rank, 1's go to C Rank and 0 gets a D Rank (and will possibly be demoted out of the tournament if they perform poorly enough)

It should look something like this:

A - 3 points

B - 2 points

C - 1 points

D - 0 points

It's basic but it's better then randomizing characters in the bracket without balance. anyways am going to try and get some sleep, I've be testing the characters after I sleep and possibly do work on my game dev project in the evening. Good Night!
